Saturday 1st of June 2013
The 1st of June marks this years annual Fownhope Club Walk which is organised and run by the Heart of Oak Society. We are proud to have been asked by the Heart of Oak if the walk can end up at Wye Leisure at approximatly 2.30pm / 3.00pm where refreshments will be provided (donations towards the Heart of Oak Society are always welcome) and a Pig Roast will be served (pig roast chargeable by ticket).
The day will start at 10.00 am at the New Inn. The parade will be led by the AW Parker (Drybrook) Band followed by the Fownhope Heart of Oak Society Banner and members carrying their traditional decorated sticks. There is no charge to attend – But donations to the Heart of Oak Society are always welcome.
The group will parade to St Mary’s Church for a stirring service of thanks and praise. The parade then moves to three locations in the village where hosts will welcome us with refreshments. The Silurian Morris Men will provide lively music and dancing throughout the Club Walk and the AW Parker (Drybrook) Band will perform some of their extensive prize winning concert pieces.
Finally the group will finish with a pig roast and the Family Sports at Wye Leisure, together with music from the AW Parker (Drybrook) Band, more dancing by Morris Men and a May Pole dance by the Fownhope Brownies. There will also be fun races for children and adults (weather permitting). Prizes include the famous FHOS mugs which are produced exclusively for the Heart of Oak by Tintagel pottery.
